How OPRA scoring actually works (and why most people fail it)

APC doesn't publish a public score breakdown. Here's what we know from 4,200+ scored OPRA mocks — and the patterns that separate pass from fail.

OPRA is graded pass/fail by APC, using the Rasch model. Candidates do not receive a numeric score — only a pass or fail outcome. "~50% correct" is a rule of thumb that often correlates with passing on practice mocks, not a published threshold.

What we know from practice mocks

Across PassPilot OPRA mocks, candidates who complete 8+ full mocks under timed conditions pass at noticeably higher rates than those who don't. The platform's own pass-rate estimate is not an official APC statistic — it is a signal from practice data only.

Where people lose points

Most fail in two places: pharmaceutical calculations and clinical scenarios involving drug interactions. Both are heavily tested, both require practice, both are very teachable.

Strategy

Take 8 full mocks. Review every wrong answer. After the 4th mock, your score will start to plateau — that's when targeted revision kicks in. Don't just take mocks, study them.
